One of my toes is developing into s hammer toe. What can I do about this?

Is it your second toe? Are you developing a bunion on the same foot?

Yes it is. Yes, a pretty small one, and a patch of hard skin on the sole.

I go barefoot whenever I can ( hate shoes), have to wear straps because of knee problems so Mary Janes with softish heels, aka old lady frumps.

Thanks for getting back, advice?

Primarily my advice would be see to see a reputable local MSK or biomechanics Podiatrist privately. This is because you have a forefoot problem, rather than just a toe problem.
You are describing a foot that is changing over time due to stress and probably something called over pronation. A podiatrist would be able to advise you with some specific advice and possibly some orthotics.

In the meantime you need to get back into shoes and wear them as much as possible. They will support your foot and you need that support. The longer you spend out of shoes the more uncomfortable it will be to get back into them and your arch will lower, your foot will spread, your bunion and your hammer toe will worsen.

Gosh, thanks, and I always thought barefoot was good! I hate hate hate shoes. Have done since a toddler.

Will do. See Imelda Marcos moment in reverse, getting rid of masses if shoes... And a chance to buy new ones...
