I had a left mastectomy 10 years ago after BC. I had reconstructive surgery at the same time, and an augmentation on rhs - I was almost flat-chested before BC [easier to diagnose, fortunately, so caught the BC in time, though it was aggressive and advanced] so ended up going from 36AA to 36C.
I had rhs replaced after a small rupture 6 years later and last year, had the lhs removed completely after a serious rupture. So, I now have a prosthesis on lhs and augmented rhs.
I now have to decide whether or not to have the lhs put back in so I end up with 2 matching boobs. I have had several surgeries over the years on the lhs as I have had a failed nipple recon and also suffer from capsular contracture every time, so even though the result from the outside is 2 nice boobs, underneath it's a bit unsightly.
With the advent of summer and low-cut tops I am going to miss being able to wear my t-shirts, as mastectomy bras for prosthesis are so huge, I have taken to wearing a lacy vest underneath to hide what was previously quite a nice cleavage.
I am suffering terribly with low self-esteem [separate thread!] and can't decide if it's worth having my lhs replaced, knowing that in ten years time I'll be 61 and due to have them done again, or that either boob might rupture again.
At the moment I'm fit and healthy but can't help feeling I might just have the rhs taken out altogether and go back to my original flat-chested look.
Any advice appreciated!
