Anxious or real?

Last month I had spotting around ovulation and just before my period started. I was beside myself with worry that it was something sinister and was prescribed an anti-depressant for anxiety. At the same time they prescribed the pill as I was currently not using contraception.

Since then I've had spotting every day and I am beside myself with worry. I am back at the doctors on Tuesday for a pelvic exam but she said she probably won't do a smear as its not due for a few months.

Am I letting my anxiety take over or should I be worried about this spotting? GP is only doing the exam because of my anxiety. She doesn't seem too worried.

-Just that peri-meno can cause erratic bleeding, but you're a bit young for that ! Some women do get ovulation spotting, it isn't unusual. To be clear, are you on a new pill now? Is it the mini-pill? I think that may be causing the spotting, hopefully the GP will do a full check on Tuesday. I imagine she might do a smear, as a few months early isn't that out, if you have them every two years. Try not to worry, you are up to date with your smear tests, it is really very unlikely to be cervical cancer and far far more likely to be a hormonal issue.

Thanks. At the back of my mind I keep saying it's the pill causing it. I've restarted on marvelon after 2 years off but because I had some spotting before restarting the pill I've convinced myself it's something sinister. GP is more concerned with the anxiety than any physical symptoms and DH keeps reminding me of that.

You have health anxiety . Along with a minor period related issue that'll soon be sorted. Get help with the HA because it can really blight your life

I have spotting a lot of the time. Most of the month at the moment with the copper coil. I have had 2 pelvic ultrasounds and numerous smear tests in the last 5 years - it's just one of those things for me, and if you are up to date with smears probably for you too.

I would attend to the health anxiety though.

Thank you for your replies. I know I have anxiety and my lovely doctor is helping me deal with that. Going this morning for my pelvic exam. Really want to put this all behind me!
