Recall after first mammogram

I am 47 and have been recalled to the breast clinic for further tests after a routine mammogram. I know extending the age range ifrom 47 to 73 s being trialled and I fall under this. I wondered if anyone had any information on what percentage of women under 50 are being recalled for this trial and basically if this could be the reason for my recall?

Hi I was recalled after my first mammo at 47. Sometimes they don't always come out well if they are done in a mobile unit and They like to double check. Mine sadly showed up a small cancer which could not be felt so thank goodness for a mammo at 47 three years later it would have been a lot bigger.

Hi - had a recall for the second mammogram (51) having got though the first with no problem. It was overlapping breast tissue, probably. I had had a bit of a hormonal blip about 3 weeks before the screening, and two weeks later at the follow up, there was nothing anywhere, at all.

You will have been recalled because there is something on the screening mammogram which they want to investigate further, and nothing to do with your age. Although if you are younger, the result is more likely to be like mine.

I'm sorry to hear that flushingfreda and hope you are doing well following treatment.

I realize that there could be something sinister on mine too but I have asked to have the follow up at a teaching hospital closer to my home and not the small (and not very good) district general they want me to attend. The breast clinic are being really odd about transferring me and the nurse mentioned 'politics' so that was the reason for my question.

I don't think it will have anything to do with your age. I was recalled after my first mammogram when I was 52. I believe it is more likely that you will be recalled after a first mammogram as there is nothing to compare it to.

I was recalled after my first mammogram aged 50 and my friend was too. They say more people are called back after the first one as there is nothing to compare it to. Mine and my friends were fine. I was worried though and I told very few people. Mainly work people as I needed the morning off. I wonder if when you are younger your breasts ar denser and they can't see things as clearly. Good luck.

Thanks for all your replies. I had heard you are more likely to be recalled after your first because of the lack of comparison images and that breast tissue can be denser in under 50s.

Breast tissue is much denser when you are younger which is why there is no routine screening for women in their 30s. I had a mammogram when I found a lump and there was no sign of it on the screen.
