Stomach bug lasting weeks

Hi all,
My DS (9) vomited a couple of times over 10 days ago and since then has been pale, lethargic and has had terrible stomach cramps. Dr said it was viral and that it will pass. The cramps seemed to have improved and he was back to school today but came home saying he was sore again.
I've been feeling tired and queasy for the last couple of weeks. Some days I'm fine and then I feel rotten. Last night I woke up feeling I wanted to be sick but nothing came up (sorry tmi) and now terrible cramps on and off all day.
I just wondered if anyone else has had tummy bugs that go on for weeks and symptoms seem to come and go.

It'd possible the stomach bug has caused some kind of temporary lactose intolerance.

lay off the milk for a few days and see how it goes.

does he ever suffer from Constipation or anything

No, no constipation. He's definitely better, but I just never thought stomach viruses can last for so long. I guess I'm just worrying that I'm going the same way and be ill for weeks too along with DS and we're just passing it back and forth.

Just keep to really light foods. lay off milk . and hopefully it will run its course soon.

Stool sample? Could be campylobacter. No treatment always necessary but it would explain the symptoms which then helps you accept it.

3 of us had this stomach bug recently. It lasted about 3 weeks from the time DD1 got it to when it ended with DD2. Some days DD1 was fine then it came back with a vengeance. I had it too but just stopped eating and took an Imodium just in case which held it at bay. Still felt awful though, headaches and weird dry throat and my washing machine has still not forgiven us - nonstop for about 10 days it was Sad.
