for the past 5 months I have been suffering with awful period pains and brown discharge after my period and in my ovulating week. I feel very tired and drained at these times. I get awful tummy cramps and stabbing pains just above my belly button. has anyone else suffered with this? does it sound like endrometosis Confused

It could be, but there are lots of gynae issues, so you'd need to see your GP who would refer you to the hospital. You should definitely get it checked out.

That's not great. Could you go back? I bled for 6 months between appointments once and it was no fun.

It could well be endometriosis; the brown "old" blood and pains are but two of its symptoms. Any pains that are cyclical in nature and get worse up to and including menses should be checked out properly to see if endometriosis is present.

An internal ultrasound scan will not detect endometriosis if it is there.

Would suggest you keep a daily pain and symptom diary if you do not already do so. In the meantime I would return to the GP and request a referral to a gynae.

My endometriosis was diagnosed by a very, very experienced sonographer in the end. She said to my consultant that my scan indicated to her that endo was present after months and months of them telling me I didn't have it and me going but are you sure? After I'd been scanned by this lady, he said, if she's saying it looks like endometriosis then we'll do a lap, as she's rarely wrong! Before that they'd say things like it's just remnants from your last period.

I went yesterday back to my gp and he said he would chase up my scan and refer me to gyne which I was told they had done it when I first initially went 2 months ago Sad Sad
