Fuck! Root canal on front tooth! fuck!

How painful is this going to be? I had a filling a few months ago, and whilst the filling was fine, the injection was horrendous, and I'm not usually a wimp about injections.

Anyone suffered this?

It might not hurt at all, I had a root canal done on the 3rd tooth (not sure what it's called)without any anaesthetic and it didn't hurt at all - the nerve was totally dead so there was no pain, I think it hurts at the back at there are multiple nerves whereas that's not the case in the front ones.

I've had it done and it's not that bad. Injection hurt a bit but after that the whole area was numb and the dentist just got on with it. The procedure does take time I was probably in the chair 30-45 minutes for the first session, and less time for the second. (Second time was two weeks later where it's unplugged and cleaned again).

Don't recall it as excessively painful, just awkward . Hate to mention it but mine didn't entirely work and had to have a minor op some months later. Tooth has turned rather grey over time but recently knocked the one next to it so maybe I'll end up with a matching pair Hmm

I am usually a wimp. I had to have a front tooth root canal after DS accidentally head-butted me. I pleaded with the dentist for an injection but he was adamant it was not going to hurt as totally dead. He asked me to thumbs up about every minute to check I was still ok. Had to confess he was right. 8 years on it has a yellow discolouration but I haven't had to further treatment.

I had it done on the second tooth in, about 3 weeks ago, it was less painful than a normal filling. I was bricking it, and almost enjoyed myself. 50 minutes to myself, forced to lie down and listen to inane radio. Blush

The jaw itself was tender the next day, but nothing untoward. No painkillers needed or anything. I did have the anaesthetic injection first, and things must have moved on since I last had one, because until I went all dribbly I didn't even realise he'd done it!

My tooth had cracked and he rebuilt it up again, now it just looks like a normal tooth from a distance, really close up you can see it's porcelain or whatever they use. It's not a crown, just a "build up". He said to be careful on it or it might need a crown.

I was chuffed with it, really.

I'm not bothered about the root canal. I've had one before...it was the injection for the filling at the front that freaked me out. And I'm usually not at all bothered by injections

Does your dentist offer 'the wand'? I've heard great things about it from a friend who is very nervous about injections.

I have my two front teeth crowned- broke one of them aged 10. Therefore have had injections up the front many times.

It doesn't hurt any more than anywhere else, just a big stingy - and feels like it's going up towards your eyes. Have a tissue ready.

I have had root canal on one of my front teeth. It was fine but was many years ago so can't really remember much about it.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 19/02/2015 18:12

Have had this. Was nothing. Just like a normal filling.

BestIsWest · 20/02/2015 21:29

I had it done n my 30s as a result of cracking ia front tooth as a child. It didn't really hurt but it discoloured over time and I ended up with a veneer.
