I am slowly but surely losing the will here. I have had a cold and nasty cough for 2 weeks. The cough is driving me mad, constant fits of coughing. My throat is sore from all the coughing and I'm so tired from lack of sleep. I have been to my GP who said that my chest is clear and no need for antibiotics, but can someone please tell me when this bloody cough is going to go away! What can I do to ease it? I really am so fed up with it Sad

Ohh, me too.

Lots of fluids and staying not too far from the loo are my first tactics. Also, avoiding dairy and wheat products helps dry up the congestion. Hope you get better soon, xx

Blatantly marking place; same here, sorry no help.

Mine has turned into a dry horrid cough and swallowing hurts so badly!

Codeine linctus (pholcodeine) from the chemist - just take it at night. It is the only cough mixture that has any effect. However, you should not take it if you are coughing anything up as it is a strong cough suppressant. Don't mix with any other medicines.

It allows your throat to rest so that it can heal.

During the day do steam inhalation and tea made with fresh ginger root with honey in it. Peel and chop a piece of ginger root to make about a tablespoonful of chopped ginger. put in a mug, pour on boiling water and add a spoonful of honey. Inhale the steam then drink the tea when it has cooled down - about 3 or 4 minutes. do this every 3 or 4 hours during the day.

This will help to open everything up and ensure you cough up any gunk that is down there.

Potters cough remover works really well.
Sip warm water - calms the cough reflex
Gargle with sage tea for helping throat pain
Inhaling steam helps, even better if you add drop of thyme essential oil to the hot water

I have a yucky cough at the moment too and last night tried a German natural remedy and was surprised it worked so well, so thought I would share.

Chop an onion and put in a bowl. Drizzle some runny honey over the top. Allow to stand for a few hours (with a lid on or it stinks!) and then take a teaspoon of the sirup stuff that gathers in the bowl. Tastes oniony but sweet. I went to bed and slept the whole night without coughing once and this morning the cough is much looser and less sore when I cough. Will be using it on the kids today.

I have the same. Had my chest checked 9 days ago, it was clear, but it has got worse and worse so going back. I find cough medicine containing guafenesin (sp?) works a bit at night. The lack of sleep is the worst!
