Well, that says it all really!

It's about the size of a marble, and it's just to the left of my perineum(sp). Going to make an appointment at docs for later in the week, but, o wise mumnetters, what could it be??

Try and get an appointment as soon as babe. I have no idea what it is. I just know that lumps need to be sorted!

Gillian76 · 22/10/2006 20:11

Could be anything. A cyst maybe. But definitely get it checked as soon as you can.

FrannyandZooey · 22/10/2006 20:12

My guess is a cyst but you must go to the doctor as well as asking us, Beth

tissy · 22/10/2006 20:15

Bartholin's cyst?

singersgirl · 22/10/2006 20:19

I once had a smaller lump near where you describe (!) and my GP said it was just a blocked pore. It disappeared by itself. But definitely go and see your doc.

MrsBadger · 22/10/2006 20:20

my money's on a Bartholin's cyst too - do an archive search, several MNers have had them and dealt with them!

hoxtonchick · 22/10/2006 20:21

i had a bartholin cyst. it was really painful (mind you, this was before i had kids so wasn't really in a position to know). ended up going to a&e (it really did hurt), & they admitted me straight away & operated that night. so i hope for your sake it's a blocked pore....

BethAndHerBrood · 22/10/2006 20:25

I've just tried searching - nothing comes up. Can someone help me please?

OP posts:
BethAndHerBrood · 22/10/2006 20:50

Bump - can someone help me search?? Pretty Please!!

OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 22/10/2006 20:52

What are you trying to search for, Beth? Tissy's linked to Bartholin's cyst a bit further down, did you see that?

tissy · 22/10/2006 20:53

Bartholin's cysts don't have to be painful- unless they're infected they can be painless.

FrannyandZooey · 22/10/2006 20:54

here's a thread on Bartholin's cysts

mears · 22/10/2006 20:58

Have you had an episiotomy or tear in the past during childbirth?

I have a lump which is in the scar. Have had it for 18 years now - not painful. Is thought to be scar tissue.

BethAndHerBrood · 22/10/2006 21:25

No, 3 c/sections!

It's definately a new thing, and it's sore!

I had a Bartholins cyst and was given antibiotics fo r it. You don't necessarily have to have surgery. They only do this if no other options are available. Go to your GP and they will sort it out for you.

Heathcliffscathy · 23/10/2006 13:58

bartholins cyst almost certainly.

get some antibiotics.

make sure you are properly lubricated when having sex.

if you want to try getting rid of it at home, use hot (as you can bear it without burning yourself) compresses: clean flannel in hot water. press against the cyst. sometimes this sorts it out without having to resort to antibiotics.

if it gets bigger or starts to feel painful, go straight to doctor, who'll probably sent you to hospital to have it drained. they are bad news if they get infected.

a small one that isn't infected can just be there for years though, with no health implication.

i've had many many of these (6 - 3 on each side) and finally realised that having surgery exacerbates the problem as the scar tissue makes the pores more prone to getting blocked. so i would avoid surgery if you can.

definitely get it checked out by a doc in case it isn't that, but i'm pretty sure it is.

BethAndHerBrood · 23/10/2006 15:28

Can't get a docs appt untill 6 nov!! Is it an emergency?? Can ring at 8.45 in the morning to see if there are any appts left??!!

StrawberryFULLMoonOWOWOWWWWWWW · 23/10/2006 15:32

is it time of month?..have you recently changed pill or other tabs?

i get them a week before due on sometimes one sometimes 3 or 4..very pain full where they are but only some around my period..never got them when pg, so dont know if its my period or the pill?

doc said just caused by heat[!]

Piffle · 23/10/2006 15:32

yes it's an emergency
if its sore it is most likely infected

Piffle · 23/10/2006 15:32

well an emergency inasmuch as cannot wait until 6/11

BethAndHerBrood · 23/10/2006 15:33

Have to say though, my lump is nothing like the picture on thelink. It's not near my "vaginal opening" (cringe), it's further back, and you can't tell there's a lump just by looking, you've got to feel it. Well, you don't, obviously, but YKWIM!!!

OP posts:
StrawberryFULLMoonOWOWOWWWWWWW · 23/10/2006 15:34

mine are more on the outside and are like boils????

Greensleeves · 23/10/2006 15:35

Could you go to a walk-in centre? Otherwise if you can't get an appt till 6th November I would ask to see the practice nurse - failing that, go to A&E. I reckon it's a Bartholin's cyst too, but it's hard to be sure, obviously - you need it looked at.
