I am 5w1d pregnant with no.2 (if things go to plan etc). In my last pregnancy, I had 2 weeks of nausea but at no point thought I was going to be sick and I never was. I found out I was pregnant a week ago, and again was experiencing no symptoms apart from boobs were a tiny bit sore.

Today, I have felt nauseous since I got up but managed breakfast fine and went food shopping etc (still feeling crap but ok really). I didn't really fancy lunch but had a v. small amount. I was REALLY sick an hour later. Very shocked lol. About half hour after that I sipped on a fair bit of water. I started feeling sick and yep, I've just been sick loads again. This is very new to me. Is this what m/s is like or do you think I have a bug or something? If this is m/s, how can I stop myself getting dehydrated if I can't even keep water down?

hyperemesis gravida is an extreme form of mornisng sickness that can lead to becoming dehydrated and a stay in hospital for the mum!!! if this continues for more than a couple of days i'd call the docs ASAP....especially as the nausea has come on so soon

also excessive nausea in early pregnancy can be a sign of a multiple birth....

or it may pass!!

keep an eye on things and if it doesn't improve and you can't tolerate water...call docs....

lulumama · 21/10/2006 16:39

not saying you have hypermemesis..! you might just be having a really bad day...!

pandaeyes · 21/10/2006 17:22

thanks lulumama- I really don't know what to think! It doesn't seem right as it has come on so suddenly. I'm thinking it could be a bug now as I am freezng cold one minute and then really hot just before I'm sick. No diarroeah yet though.

Would a bug this early be likely to cause a miscarriage or anything, does anyone think?

hot & cold sounds more like a bug especially as so early in pregnancy..if you are unwell, feverish & not tolerating fluids...give

NHS Direct a call

0845 46 47

have no idea if it will cause you to miscarry if it is a bug...hopefully not....

they will advise you and perhaps get you seen at of hours doctors

my morning sickness was from about 6 weeks and allthough pretty bad, never got hot & cold...

Keep an eye on the sickness, some people get m/s so bad they have to be put on a drip. Try and sip water throughout the whole day if you can ((hugs))

PrettyCandles · 21/10/2006 17:30

m/s can differ from pg to pg. UYou may just be unluky this time, or you may be carrying twins.

Don't worry too much about eating - eat what you can when you can and don't worry if what you can keep down isn't 'nutritious', or is only a tiny amount. Whatever you eat, chew it well, in tiny mouthfulls.

Keep sipping teeny amounts of liquids, so that you get through as much as possible, but your stomach never feels burdened. Try different liquids - eg icy cold or with a drop of ginger cordial or lime juice added.

And remember, it does pass.

I found out I was pregnant with Dd1 because I was nauseous.. the following day I was throwing up several times a day. It was diagnosed as hyperemisis - not nice but nothing bad to baby. I always went hot and cold just through the shock of vomiting - i think it is to do with losing salts or something.

Sounds like morning sickness to me. Obviously contact doctor for proper diagnosis. Whatever you do, don't get hungry. Cream crakers or whatever you can tolerate constantly nibbling (even if it takes you half an hour to eat one cracker). Stay hydrated - again sip.

Aparently morning sickness is a protection mechanism to put you off eating anything harmful. Abandon any attempt to eat non bland food (esp anything greasy) - it'll just exacerbate things. You didn't say what you ate for lunch, but your bump might have found it objectionable.

sassy · 22/10/2006 09:08

As a survivor of hyperemesis in 2 pgs, it can come on v suddenly and early. (Sorry.)

My advice is to monitor your sickness for 48 hours. Try sips of water, icelollies can help too, plus if you can have something to eat it does help.

If you ar still srtugggling by tues, get an urgent dr appt, explain situ and insist on treatment. If it is hyperemesis and it is not controlled, a drip in hosp is the only way to sort you out. (I know, haapened to me twice).

It may be a bug of course, or it may pass. I hope so!

misdee · 22/10/2006 09:13

could be a bug. but i got very hot and sweaty with hyperemesis gravida. i had it with all 3 pregnancies, but was only hospitalised with dd3 as i was throwing up blood. they werent worried about the blood but were concerned as i was dehydrated. even though i was drinking plenty, i just couldnt keep anything down for more than an hour.

i found ginger ale worked with dd1, i could keep a small glass down for a while. with dd2 nothing worked. with dd3 only water.

pandaeyes · 22/10/2006 09:55

Well, I feel loads better this morning so I am just confused! I wasn't sick again- just a violent twice. I'm thinking it was a bug. My tummy felt very unsettled in the afternoon too. Whatever it is, I hope to god this pg continues and the bug didn't harm the baby.

The only other thing it could be is that I had a piece of cheesecake Fri night (fresh homemade) but I am still on metformin from ttc. It is a bad idea t eat fatty stuff with metformin and cheesecake is by FAR the fattiest thing I've had since being on it.

I was constantly sick during my pregancy from about the time you are talking until about 20 weeks,

MrsOhHu · 22/10/2006 11:46

I was very very sick for a day or 2 at the beginning of my last pg. It sounds a bit like what you had. I don't think it was a bug since I haven't been sick for ages and nobody else seemed to have it. For me, it was just the beginning of feeling dreadful although I wasn't actually sick after that!

lulumama · 22/10/2006 11:47

glad you are feeling a bit better,,...might have been a bug after all!

twickersmum · 22/10/2006 11:55

with both pg my morning sickness started with what i was sure "must have been a bug" because it was so sudden and so violent... maybe it is, but morning sickness can start like that. grim.
every time i puked i remember thinking "this is a good sign, the baby is healthy, taking everything it needs and zapping me" hope this helps you too! come back and let us know how you get on.

pandaeyes · 23/10/2006 13:52

thanks for all the support everyone- I think I am putting it down to a bug. No sick yesterday but 1 episode of the runs! I feel better today and back to worrying as I have no symptoms.

Glad to hear you're feeling better Pandaeyes. I had morning sickness on all of mine to varying degrees. I found that root ginger in hot water a few times a day was very good at keeping the nausea at bay. Also, eating every two hours helped a lot. Good luck with the pregnancy.
