Scan tomorrow, a tad scared

Have nc for this. I have to have a brain and cervical spine scan tomorrow morning. Up to yesterday I felt pretty cool about it, now I am starting to feel really worried.

I have to go alone as DH will be taking care of our DC's. I am afraid I am going to cry or get panicky.

Has anyone ever had one? I assume I just lie back and go into the 'tunnel' and will feel and hear nothing? I am not usually this anxious. I'd really appreciate any voices of reason. Thanks Sad

Have had lots of MRI scans though spine not head. It is FINE. A bit noisy, very warm and cosy. The staff really understand that you feel anxious and spend time getting you comfortable. You have a button to press any time and you can hear and talk to the staff.

My main issue is staying awake. It's a very hypnotic atmosphere. Only one thing I've noticed is that at intervals the staff will tell you how long the next part of the scan will take ie four minutes: they lie. Ignore and relax. There is a slightly odd magnetic feeling but nothing painful or scary.

Good luck. Please don't worry.

Sorry, should have said, I think CT scans are quiet. Only had one. MRIs are very noisy.

If you remember any relaxation excercises for antenatal they are good to do. Bring a CD, they might be able to play it for you. Close your eyes if you feel a bit claustrophobic. Tell the staff If you are nervousness, they are used to that and should work with you to cope

I had a MRI for my head and absolutely hate being closed in and was bricking it!!!! But it was fine!!!! It was noisy but you are given headphones to wear and they play music, take a cd with you. Considering I had a thumping head at the time the noise was the last thing I needed but honestly it was fine. The technician told me exactly what was going to happen and how long it would be. I can remember thinking right if 20 minutes then that's 7 songs roughly. It will be fine trust me xxxx
