Any advice on hypothyroidism?

I've had various blood tests for this and the "normal range" given for tsh is 0.5-5.5. I understand that different labs give different "normal" ranges. I'm within the normal range but I still think there is a problem. Does anyone know of any labs in the Uk which give a different range - my gp has just said my results are normal but from what I have read online in some parts of the world my results wouldn't be considered normal. My tsh levels have doubled in 12 months so it doesn't seem right.

OK, what levels of TSH are you showing and what's the trajectory of the increase looking like?

It is possible to be very hypothyroid with a TSH within the reference range. A disconnect between the pituitary, which kicks out TSH and the thyroid, which should respond to it, can leave you with a 'normal' looking TSH, but low levels of thyroid hormones.

We may have to dig a bit deeper here.

Thanks. Tsh is 3.8 at the moment but it always used to be around 1.5. No idea what my free t4 or t3 is because apparently the gp can't order that test if my tsh is within the reference range so I'm a bit stuck wondering.

A GP is not likely to treat you unless your tsh rises above 5, best to get the tests repeated in a few weeks/months time, or if you start to feel even more unwell. odd they didnt check free t4, that makes no sense to me.
