Toe hurting - dance lesson tonight! What can I do?

Dh and I have signed up for a course of dance lessons, paid up front, no refund possible. Yesterday my toe started hurting. I don't know why. I wear Birkenstocks around the house, as I otherwise suffer with plantar fasciitis (sp?) and unfortunately my Birkenstocks are starting to break, crumble away a bit where that toe is, not sure if that's causing the problem. The pain is mainly in the "ball" of the toe, so the back of the toe near the top, the fleshy part. It's the toe next to my big toe on my left foot. I can't see any injury or anything different to usual.I tried putting a plaster on last night, but it didn't help.

I really want to go to dance tonight, as it's only the 2nd week, I won't get a refund and also it's fun, but not sure I will be able to dance. What's the best way of dealing with the pain and also padding the toe so I can still get my shoes on? And what could this be?

Does it hurt all the time or when walking or standing or bending it?
I assume you don't remember banging it, or dropping anything on it?
You might just of twisted it or something walking around. You could try an ice pack? Or ibroprufen might help if there is muscle/joint pain.
I'd go along, maybe take a flat pair of shoes that you could change into if pain is really bad, and just join in as much as you can.

It doesn't hurt all the time, just when I touch it or walk. No I don't think I've bumped it or anything.
