Gagging at the dentist

Anyone have any tips on how to reduce/stop it? It seems to be more of a result of anxiety and nerves but if I knew I wouldn't gag, I would be fine IYSWIM. It's so embarrassing when it happens.
Got a check up next week and need to sort this out.

I have always had awful problems with this and yes it is so embarrassing.

The only thing I have found that helped is to make an appointment for as late in the day as possible, the gag reflex seems to not be as bad then. Dentist confirmed this and I know that if I clean my teeth first thing in the morning, even that makes me gag something awful, No dentist in sight then!! Later in the day I can clean them fine.

My appt is for 8:30, for work reasons and also I hate waiting all day for my appt, but yeah this probably is when gagging is at its worst for me!
Urgh I am dreading it! Apparently breathing through nose is best.
