DD has had "loose" bowels for about a week now, always in the mornings and then nothing else for the rest of the day.
This morning though she definately has dioreah (bad spelling).
She has no other symptoms, we have cut fruit out of her diet for the moment, it isnt worrying her, so should I go to the docs or not??

I wouldn't cut fruit out of her diet

I would increase her fluid levels too to help flush out the bug

if she isn't in any particular discomfort I wouldn't worry about loose stools unless she's going frequently ... say more than 3 times a day .. then I think its classed as diarrhea

Thanks twig, I only cut the fruit out as she eats so much I thought that might be contributing to the loosness IYKWIM.
She always drinks loads anyway, already had 3 big cups of juice this morning, no docs then??

if it's once a day and she is eating and drinking a normal varied diet for her age (which is?) then she sounds fine

if she is tired, not gaining weight, miserable etc then see tyhe docote

Try substituting water for the juice. Is it the same juice she has always had? Artificial sweetners (sorbitol) can cause really bad diarrhoea in children. Might be worth checking labels.

Depending on age, Yakult or similar may be an option? If she's not otherwise unwell, she might just be missing some essential good gut bacteria?

LittleGlowormOfHorrors · 16/10/2006 10:24

my ds has loose bowels if he has "no added sugar" squash. so it might be worth switching the drinks you use.

giving her some good bacteria would definitely help. if she has loose bowels it means she is loosing lots of her good bacteria. You can get tasteless powder (like Solgar ABCdophilus or similar) which you add to cold food or drink. They are much better than the probiotic yogurt or drinks which dont really contain much good bacteria and are usually loaded with sugar.

These probiotic yoghurt drink things gave my ds and friend really bad runs!

My DS has an intolerence to orange juice - it causes the same thing, he lives on fruit of every shape & form.
