Ive had my first migraine for 2 weeks! Feel dreadful. Never had one before so not sure what to expect. How log will this go on for?

not sure what brought it on, maybe a combination of stopping the pill, some thrush cream (miconazole) and lots of wine and choc christmas day. Anyway its been so bad I was in hospital for 2 days as they thought id had a stroke!

how long will this last for?!!!!!!! urghhh need a lie down now!

You need to go to your GP, this is often called a cluster migraine, where it persists for so long. They can and will medicate you to bring it to an end. Please don't leave it - I had my first one of these four years ago this month, and it was misdiagnosed at first as a bad sinus infection...three weeks later and the pressure on my optic nerve actually caused long term damage to my right eye, which has only come right in the last six months. Go to the doctors today.

Hope you get sorted with the gp. However if you continue to struggle make an appointment with the doctors at the National Migraine Centre in London. They are fantastic. Unfortunately it's not on the nhs - it's run as a charity and appointments don't come cheap... But my daughter's migraines have all but stopped since she started following their recommendations (after having 1 or 2 migraines per week). Good luck x

Wow Ok thank you. My GP said it might be a sinus infection. I did laugh. Then he wanted me to get my eyes tested before he would do anything. Suprise they are fine. Ill be more persistent Monday. Its difficult when you feel like crap tho. Thank you so much. x

I suffered from migraines for years, and sumatriptan changed my life (brand name Imigram) - it's not a pain killer but it shrinks the blood vessels around the brain which swell in a migraine attack, and it's the swelling that causes the pain. With this drug I am pain free in 2 hours, as opposed to 1.5 days!

Cluster headaches tend to attack just one quarter of the head and are incredibly painful (the eye can water on the affected side) my DIL who has a very high pain threshold suffered with these a few years ago and the pain was horrendous. They treated her with a triptan drug but it didn't do much good. Thankfully it just went away of it's own accord.
