all the sympathy you may need fom me,my dh suffers with that and i know what you going through

Miaou - you have my sympathy. One of my best friends has had this and suffered for many years. He had surgery this year and it has cured him completely. I think diet is the key to less pain if you are in the early stages. How are you feeling?

BlackMagicMiaou · 14/10/2006 20:06

Under the weather, but not too bad. Just looked it up on NHS Direct - didn't realise it was so serious actually!! I am just taking painkillers and trying to increase my fibre intake atm and will see how it goes.

How long have you been suffering? My friend had it for many years before being correctly diagnosed. He was told it was IBS etc etc and finally found the doctor with the answer and the surgery has changed his life.

miaou hope your feeling better soon do you know that if you increase you fibre intake you must increase you fluid intake too as fibre is very water absorbing sorry if you already know this

Oh you poor poor thing

My mum AND my MIL have this and it can be thoroughly miserable at times. (Well, they have diverticular disease and get the diverticulitis flare ups).

It can be really painful and make you feel very flu-like too.

KBear, not long at all really - just saw gp again today and that's what she thinks all my pain is. Last week I saw a different gp and she thought it might be appendicitis, but since I didn't keel over and end up in A&E we decided that it probably wasn't that!

Other possibility is that it is an ovarian cyst - but we're going with the divvy just now.

Are you having further investigations though? Will they send you for a scan or laporoscopy?

BlackMagicMiaou · 15/10/2006 11:03

Nothing planned atm Kbear, but as I understand it, diverticulitis is (or can be) a one-off, whereas diverticulosis is recurrent flare-ups and a predisposition to diverticulitis. Tbh I didn't realise it was such a serious condition till I came home and looked it up, I just thought "phew, not appendicitis then"! I've to go back in a week if I'm not feeling any better and the doc gave me her home phone number for if it all goes tits up this weekend - but I feel ok-ish just now.
