How long can germs live in a bedroom?

Relatives are leaving tomorrow after a stay, one has really bad flu/throat infection.
Is the room safe to move into again? Obviously I will change bedding, hoover open windows, but is it safe to use the room - or should I leave it a day or two?
I may put duvet they have used outside for an airing, am I being paranoid here?

I would change the bed sheets and air the room. Obviously bleach sides and door handles, lights switches.

But then I'm a paranoid mess ATM.

I'm pretty relaxed about household hygiene, I would do as free spirit said, but just use household detergent and warm water to clean surfaces and handles, headboard , clean all door handles in house, taps and toilet flush handle. But my theory is the germs will probably die in a couple of days anyway.

I thought flu was airborne too? I could be wrong x

If you are sure it was flu, the virus lives for only about 24 hours max outside the body.

Was the sore throat part of actual influenza or were they seen by a doctor who diagnosed it as a separate condition?

And Flu is horrid and as it typically floors people for a couple of weeks, uou probably had these guests for much longer than you expected and the demands of nursing must have been high.

You are much more likely to have been infected whilst the influenza patients were ill and in your house than you are from any virus left on surfaces in the last 24 hours now that they have recovered enough to be able to travel.

Just airing the room would be enough, I think.
