Does she need an x-Ray?

DD fell yesterday morning and landed heavily on her hand. She has a bruise on her palm and the palm and back of her hand are both swollen. They look more swollen this evening than they did this morning.
She can wiggle her fingers, but she's in quite a bit of pain that paracetamol isn't really helping with and says she can feel something "clicking" inside her hand.
Should we go for an x-Ray?

Yes. Minor injuries for a start but not an actual emergency.

Yes. FOOSH is a medical acronym we are still allowed to use (unlike PFO (pissed, fell over) as it stands for fall onto out-stretched hand) as it is pretty much diagnostic of a particular type of wrist fracture. I am a paeds doc and very very anti un needed x Rays but in this case she may well have a wrist fracture.

Thanks sally I think its more likely that the damage is in her actual hand than wrist. Thats where the swelling is, and the pain. Im a bit anti going to A&E unless proper emergency, but not sure how else to get x-ray. Will pop up to hospital tomorrow with a good book for the wait (DD is older teen BTW).
