Anyone had one?

I've got a bladder and bowel prolapse and looking at surgery in April. I'm also having the external bits improved and a new perenium (I say new, the existing one is about 3mm wide/long) built by pulling from the top leg muscles. At least I think that's what he said (my head was reeling by this point) Also having a camera inserted into bladder and a biopsy taken

Sparkling yep, already posted it there. Slow traffic though as (hopefully) folk are on the mend and no longer need it.

Thanks also twitchy Bewitched Yes, I'm crapping it lots (excuse pun), quite shocked actually that the damage is so....extensive. Not to mention I'll be signed off work for at least 3 months, with out pay gulp.

There are lots of really nice people on there with loads of experience. You can ask anything and someone will know !

Tbh, I just want to get some advice as to what I can expect recovery wise, though I realise my scenario isn't run of the mill. I know that for 6 weeks I'm to lift nothing heavier than a kettle etc but any practical tips would be useful! As in, what's the best salts to bathe in etc, any wonder meds that will speed recovery etc

I bet this will be like the bus scenario...I'll wait ages for one then three posters that have had pelvic- floor- reconstruction-with-perenium-rebuild-using-some-as-yet-undecided-leg-type-muscles-sort-of-thing will come along at once

There's been a great programme tonight on Rik Mayall, you could iplayer it & save it for post-op.

Find out what techniques they are planning and if they are going to use mesh then make sure you do lots of research about the potential side effects because once it's in there it's impossible to remove.
I had perineal repair, cystocoele, rectocoele, and a Manchester repair all done at the same time about 10 years ago.
Perineal repair is still good, no issues, Manchester repair ( which is a very old fashioned technique, and not often used) is also still good, the other 2 have gradually failed over the years. The possible side effects of surgery are urinary incontinence, painful sex and chronic pain. Since I have no symptoms other than a bit of a bulge, I'm not having more surgery.
The best thing I did was to self refer to women's physiotherapy a couple of years ago. I thought I was exercising my pelvic floor but I wasn't doing it anywhere near properly.

Oh and whatever recovery time they suggest , double it. You won't be able to lift heavy weights for a very very long time, if at all depending on the success. If you've had all that work done you won't want to risk damaging it. Hoovering is the one thing I struggled with for a very long time post op.

Forgot to say, I didn't have bits of leg muscle used in my peritoneal repair.
