She isn't ill and isn't complaining of a sore throat. She has had glandular fever, which often recurs at this time of year but there aren't any of the usual signs. So I'm a bit stumped really.

What kind of smelly breath? Snotty? Does it smell of infected snot?

Pollybloodyanna · 11/10/2006 11:54

Does she sleep with her mouth open? I think this can make the throat dry and croaky and make the breath smell.

lucy5 · 11/10/2006 12:09

It doesn't smell of snot, just rancid, eeww and she doesn't sleep with her mouth open. thanks for the ideas though.

tonsilitis maybe ?

foxinsocks · 11/10/2006 16:10

I would have said tonsilitis (apart from the non-sore throat!). Has she got a tummy ache - that can cause nasty breath.

I get hoarse from bad reflux/heartburn (which incidentally, might make her breath smell if she is bringing back food up her throat) however, I'd be surprised if she didn't have other symptoms like waking up at night, feeling sick etc.

lucy5 · 11/10/2006 16:35

No, no other symptoms.

My dd gets smelly breath when she's constipated - hth

southeastastralplain · 11/10/2006 17:49

does she have toothache?

lucy5 · 11/10/2006 17:55

Not constipated, no toothache. In the words of Toyah "It's a mystery"

MY DD has croaky throat and smelly breath with a phelgmy cold, but if you say she has no phlegm I can't help. Have you tried cutting down dairy products - this can help DD when she is Phlegmy.
