Baby gagging on hand at 3 mths

Hi,
Our dd who is 3 mths tomorrow has recently started putting her hand in her mouth. Today she gagged on her hand whilst on the changing mat. I was washing my hands at the time & came back to find her choking & apparently not able to do anything about it. I grabbed her and turned her upside down and she was able then to puke it up.
She has since gagged on her hand again and projectiled until her stomach was empty. I am really worried about her doing this whilst i am not in the room and choking. Any suggestions?

Thanks

dd started this about the same age, she's now getting on for 5 months. she still sucks her hand, but now it's more like her thumb or a finger. but yes, at first she would make herself gag and was sick i'd say 3 times. after that she just seemed to learn how far she could go. as long as she doesn't do it too often i wouldn't worry, she'll learn from it. but obviously if she doesnt seem to be learning from it or isn't keeping her milk down then you need to be more active in stopping her do it.
