Boil? Carbuncle? Burst blood vessel??

I have had a hard painless lump under the skin of my groin crease for a few weeks. The skin was a bit darker than the rest and I assumed it was an ingrown hair and left well alone.

Today I noticed a head and after a bit of a squeeze, I saw a little clear fluid, then suddenly some quite thick green puss drained, then bright red blood followed. The blood was quite plentiful.

Later, the area was bruised looking and swollen. I thought I'd drain it to reduce the swelling. It seemed there was another head, which too released some puss. It was definitely a different head because it 'popped' before draining and the original head still drained more blood.

There is one more head that doesn't give, but the area is very swollen with a hard base below it.

It feels a bit like a vein has burst. Should I just leave it or do I need to see someone?

I get it checked as you may need antibiotics. Put some antiseptic cream on it until you can get it checked.

I get terrible ingrowns, recently had one cut out at the doctors. It sounds like an ingrown that is infected.

I would put antiseptic on it. Make sure it's clean of puss. You might need a clean needle to break it. Soak with hot water first. If it's not clearing in a couple of days, see a doctor.

And don't google carbuncle. It's gross!

AttilaTheMeerkat · 30/11/2014 08:20

I would seek medical advice now as it may be infected. Don't mess around with home treatments. What you may also have here is a sebaceous cyst.

Thanks everyone. It's a bit less swollen now.

No klaxxons here...

Hydradenitis Supporativa? Multiple heads and all, in right area.

lougle · 30/11/2014 15:43

I'm mentally scarred after googling that!

Yes, it is a scary one. Do you think you have it? I just find it interesting so have read up on it. It often starts around puberty, often affects dark skinned people, and is usually sited where there is darkness and moisture, so underarms, groin, under breasts. The thing that fascinates me about it is the sinus tract that runs under these outbreaks.

Please read up on turmeric! It's a natural treatment. Poultices, and orally.

I don't think so. It definitely feels like there is a hard area underneath, but nothing like those photos! I'm as fair as you get, too.
