ovulating one side

I get a pain every month when I'm ovulating and it has always been on the same side,ever since puberty. Does this mean I only ovulate from one ovary and is it common?

We typically only ovulate from one ovary. In very rare circumstances it is possible to ovulate from both sides, but again it is quite rare.

That doesn't stack up to me because many women lose an ovary through surgery for cysts etc but are still fertile.

One ovary per cycle but I think it's pretty unusual to only ever ovulate from 1 ovary.

Op, are you asking just because you are interested? Or is something worrying you about this?

I always seem to ovulate only from my left side. I've had 3 DC & not having any more so it didn't affect my fertility. I had wondered about it to if it was normal.

I get the pain too and it is usually on the right but it has occasionally been on the left.

It is not unusual to ovulate more on one side than the other each cycle. If you ovulate more on the left usually, the left is your dominant side and if you ovulate more on the right, well that is your dominant side. If you lose an ovary and it just so happens to have been your dominant ovary, well then the other one will have to take its place, but will usually need more help to produce good follicles/eggs.
It can also happen where each side is pretty equal throughout the total yearly cycle, meaning no side is more dominant than the other.

When I lost my right ovary my consultant told me that they don;'t know which side the egg comes from, or if it alternates each month etc etc.
He couldn't answer my question as to whether or not it would affect my fertility
