Don't trust the Mini-Pill! Reassurance?

I've just switched from the combined to the mini-pill and having read that it does not stop ovulation every month, I can't bring myself to trust it, especially in the first couple of months. Am I really supposed to build up this magical 'mucus plug' in a matter of a week? It's putting me off doing anything. Does anybody have any reassurance? Would it be likely so soon after coming off the combined (2 weeks) that I would ovulate in any case, regardless of the effect of the Mini-Pill?

depends what mini-pill it is. Cerazette/Cerelle is most likely to stop ovulation. I was on it for several years and had no periods and no pregnancy.

Did you start the mini pill straight after the combined pill with no 7 day break? - if so you would be protected right away. If you started it after the break then you need extra precautions for the first 2 days of pill taking.

Yes it's Cerelle and I moved onto immediately! Well that's reassuring at least!

I've been on Cerazette for years, it's extremely reliable especially if it stops your periods as that means there is no ovulation, that's what's happened with me so I do feel pretty safe on it. Plus it has the 12 hour window to take it in rather than 3 so its a stronger contraceptive than the traditional mini pill. It actually suits me better than the combined pill.

I got pregnant at 16 with dd on the mini pill. Then pregnant at 18 with ds on the depo injection. Don't trust contraception, abstinence is the only foolproof method to use now

You have a point there Pretty, but you would have been more fertile at 16 and it might have been the older type mini pill? Getting pregnant on depo was bad luck though :0

I can't remember what mini pill it was now, but I remember thinking that at 16 you could only get pregnant if you had sex On your periods so i was floored when I found out since I definitely had not had sex when on them! Boy did I learn a lot about my body after becoming pregnant

Depo was very bad luck but ds is much loved and wanted now, I just don't trust contraception anymore lol. But saying that I've got the Minera coil in now and not been pregnant in quite a while

Sorry.... I haven't had sex in 3 years now cos in paranoid it will happen again (don't follow my lead, I've possibly went to extremes on that front!)

If you're not getting bad side effects from the minipill but you don't quite trust it, then maybe the implant is the best way for you - it's very very reliable but uses the same hormones.

been on Norgestron for well over 10 years and no periods! And no babies other than the two I planned :)
