make sure he gets the echinacea herbal drops, not tablets!

don't worry about friday if you're not well - i will come and meet you another time when i've got more time. I think I'll just mooch around the shops and cottage some rent boys instead

spacemonkey · 14/04/2004 11:25

and plenty of vitamin C - i use the hi dose soluble or chewable ones and i think you can get them with added zinc which is sposed to be good for colds

kizzie · 14/04/2004 12:17

spacemonkey - why is it better to use the drops rather than tablets. Ive used the tablets for a while but only because thats what I found in the shops. Are the drops more effective?

spacemonkey · 14/04/2004 12:19

i have heard the drops are MUCH more effective, but that might be wrong!

Heathcliffscathy · 14/04/2004 12:41

Hi soph and spacemonkey - I also have been told that echinacea is the way to go for colds. However, I've had success taking it when I feel the first twinges of a cold/sorethroat. I've been told that it boosts your resistance, but that once you're in the grips of a nasty cold, echinacea really doesn't help much. More of a preventative thing that wards off germs, rather than a cure for existing cold. Oh yeah - also been told to only take it when you feel a cold coming on. If you take it all the time, it loses it's effectiveness. But, of course, I could be wrong........

spacemonkey · 14/04/2004 12:52

yes that is correct, you shouldn#'t take it all the time

nothing will cure a cold once you've got it, however echinacea will boost your immune system so you can fight it off more quickly

the earlier you start taking it the better i.e. as soon as you notice the first symptoms

louloubelle · 14/04/2004 16:18

I had various doses of homeopathic tablets when i was pregnant, and also used to take them for hangovers (those were the days). You cannot overdose with homeopathy, so I would take a dose immediately, then another in 1 hour , then every 4 hours or so. Hope this helps!

princesspeahead · 14/04/2004 16:33

just checked with my mother, who is a homeopath (and gp!) and she says take one 200c, see if you get better, if not take another about 4 hours later, and then about 4 hours later, then if those three don't work they won't at all and you should try something else. if after 1 you feel like you are getting better, don't take another at the 4 hour mark, give it a chance to work.
does that make sense? she was v busy in a surgery so I only got about 20seconds of her on the phone

Jimjams · 14/04/2004 19:09

Agree with PPH mother. Are you feeling very tired and slow? You culd always ring the homeopathic helpline.

Heathcliffscathy · 14/04/2004 19:14

hello jimjams thanks pph and llb. i found some info on a website which said every 3 hours and if they don't start working stop. hard to tell. after the first and second dose i felt like i was feeling better, but now i feel awful (altho i am less clogged up). have heavy headache and shivery...maybe just cause its the evening? anyway, i'll stop with the gelsemium and i've had some echinacea (sm, dh got me the tablets but better than nothing ?)

thanks everyone tho...
