He has them all on the back of his head and every time I put him down him his cot he wakes up and cries. He has so much calamine lotion on he practically has a crash helmet of it.

I gave him medised at 6 - does not seem to have done a fat lot tbh. In the house I have medised, baby hnurofen and calpol.

What can I do to make him happier, and therefore sleepier?

boots calamine and glycerin cream. thicker, stays on better and seems to help a lot more than plain calamine.
I have to admit to medised-ing my 9 month old when he had chicken pox because he just could not sleep otherwise.
Thankfully we only had 2 or 3 really bad nights (think buggy walks at 1am) and then it started to get better

Yes I took him out for a buggy walk, but he just boogled at everything. SDidn't sleep.

Have got calamine cream but he rubs it off. the lotion seems to stick better in his hair
