Can the pill help with PMT/PMDD?

Has anybody found this?

I suffer from PMDD (that's PMT from hell for 2 weeks out of every 4).

I have not taken any chemical contraception since DC was born 5 yeas ago. I think I felt 'better' when I did, in the sense that my mood swings were not as wild and out of control as they are now. Although that can just be down to age and a hormonal change since giving birth.

GP has prescribed antidepressants, which I am supposed to take every day. They feel a bit overkill to me. Plus I really am very, very afraid of antid's.

So I have 3 questions-

  1. Has anybody taken them for PMDD/PMS and found they really helped?
  2. Has anybody found that the pill helps with their PMT/PMS/PMDD
  3. Has anybody with really bad PMT/PMS/PMDD found anything that helps?

Sorry, the first question should read

" 1. Has anybody taken antidepressants for PMDD/PMS and found they really helped? "
