how soon after a tummy bug would you send your child back school?

My friend's dd has just stopped vomiting today after a horrible tummy bug that's laid their family out for the weekend up until now. My friend has only just started vomiting herself but she's planning on sending her dd back to school tomorrow. Is that too soon? The bug didn't come from the school but from some friends they stayed with last week so will she be introducing the bug into the school by not leaving it another day?

(sorry to sound mad, I'm terrified of vomiting)

48 hours.... just to be sure, and deffo if other members of the family have it.

That's what I thought. I've no idea how to persuade her to do that without sounding like an unsympathetic, interfering old cow...

My son's school has a rule that states they must be kept out of school for 48 hours after last vomit or squit. It is hardly fair to introduce a nasty bug like that into the school, especially if members of her family still have the bug.

I totally agree. How can I make her see it without seeming horrible though?

You could say 'our school/preschool or so-and-so's school says 48 hours' or you could sow the seed of doubt by saying 'are you sure she's fully recovered, wouldn't want her to be squitty at school'.

I guess you have to tread carefully - I have some friendships where I can bluntly say, 'you rotten cow, keep her off another day' but others where it would cause offence. As you're asking MN, I guess you can't be blunt or you would have been!!

I must've managed to put it right because she stayed off yesterday and is going back today which is pretty much 48 hrs since either of them had an 'episode.' Do you think that will be ok?
