Hi Everyone

Thought I would share this with my fellow emetophobes.

Like a lot of people with this fear I find the winter months horrid! bugs are on my mind 24/7 at the moment.

I had a routine appointment with my GP yesterday and while I was there I couldnt stop myself literally interrogating him! every question about sickness that was bobbing around in my brain came blurted out in a series of questions. yes i have no doubt by the time i left he was convinced i was an absolute nut case!

So I started by saying, i have a fear of being V and this time of year is very hard for me. I asked if a stomach bug does come into the house can I cake Metoclopromide (an anti emetic i am already prescribed) or will that hinder my body from dealing with the problem? do I need to get rid of the toxins? it it safe to supress the bodys natural instinct to v?

He said it is fine to take metoclopromide for a stomach bug as being sick is not necassary and that i would most likely just get more d. he did say his personal opinion is that you should not supress d and should just let that run its course rather than using something like immodium.

He also said there is an anti emetic called buccastem available OTC which is particularly good for stomach bugs as you dont have to swallow it you can just place it between the gum and lip and let it dissolve. It also gets to work very quickly.

I aksed if adults get a lot of bugs and he said it is far more common in children and even if my daughter gets one it doesnt mean we will as we have built up immunity over the years.

I asked if there is a lot more norovirus around and he said that is mainly in hospitals and residential care units.

Thought i would just share in case anyone else is interested.

My calm was short lived when I went next door to the pharmacy and the lady next to me had to sit down because she had this 'horrible bug that is going around' grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr i hate this phobia
