Spotting between periods

Hi. I'm 46 and have had a bit of spotting a few days before my period arrives. I've not been too worried about this as thought it was hormonal. Over the past two months however I've had a bit of spotting on day 10 and day 18 of my cycle. Both times it was after I'd had a bowel movement and was a bit pink on the toilet paper, but definitely vaginal.
I've been to the GP who did an examination and is referring me for a pelvic ultrasound. I had a smear two years ago so she said I don't need another one early as it's not really for people with symptoms.
Hoping it's just my age but got myself worried about cervical and endometrial cancer. Anyone else had experience of this?
Thanks

Hmmmm now I would have said potentially age too, I know periods can go awry in the perimenopause and I would probably assume it was hormones too.

I could have written your post this time last year, was also 46! Was also on the pill and had been for years with no problem. Pelvic ultrasound revealed fibroids. I had an op to trim them back from the lining of my womb as well as a Mirena coil fitted. Unfortunately, the Mirena made matters worse and I just had it removed so fingers crossed things will improve. Importantly, I do not have endometrial cancer or any other gynaecological cancer. Please don't google anymore, you won't find anything useful and it will only cause more worry as I found out!!
