Failed IUD - does that mean I can't have another one?

I had a pregnancy with a copper coil which resulted in a miscarriage 5 years ago.

My gynaecologist has recommended a mirena coil to treat fibroids and stupidly I forgot to mention this to her but in any case I immediately dismissed it. I'm now thinking I was a little hasty.

So before I got back to discuss treatment options does anyone know if one failure rules put IUDs for me forever?

I don't know for sure. But the Mirena releases hormones- so acts differently to the copper coil.

Just to say I had a Mirena to treat fibroids and it made it worse. Bleeding was lighter but almost constant for the 9 months it was in! It has now been removed and, touch wood, bleeding has stopped. Not to say this will happen to you as people react differently but something to be aware of.

Thanks both, I realise that there are some reports of bad side effects for some women but I'm interested to know about the likelihood of another IUD displacement.

Mine was pushed out of position due to a fibroid but if Mirena can shrink them then I'm wondering if it's an option again for me.
