Agnus Castus - any experience of?

I've started getting increasingly snappy, tearful and generally angry about a week before AF.

My local health food shop recommended 100mg of Agnus Castus per day. Does anyone have any experience of this and it's usefulness?

I already take evening primrose oil which has really made my skin look fantastic, but not much effect on the mood swings.

I was recommended this some years ago for PMS and it did absolutely nothing, sorry!

Perhaps I need to just revert to eating chocolate and clothes shopping Grin

Evening primrose oil did nothing for me. I have t tried Agnus Castus but it might be worth a try. It's supposed to balance the hormones. Keeping blood sugar levels constant, taking Vit B6 & Magnesiuim is supposed to help.
Taking Prozac during PMT time is a treatment used. Some people find rsking the pill helps as no ovulation. It doesn't work for everyone though . There is some useful info here. www.pms.org.uk

OP,I never saw this thread before I posted mine today.

I have used it sucessfully but am having trouble finding it. What health food store has it?

Ratracerunner · 27/10/2014 18:19

It's an independent one, where are you based?

I'm in Bristol. I thought it might be an independent one as holland and barratt don't stock it.
It is worth trying, I suffer from awful pms and this was the only thing that helped.

Sorry, I'm in the midlands, have you tried online?

I have taken it in the past ( currently pg) with good results. Boots sell it.

skolastica · 28/10/2014 07:29

It's available online as a tincture - on amazon.

hudyerwheesht · 28/10/2014 07:41

I used to get in online, from Natures best but they have stopped it. I checked Boots yesterday after not fining it in Holland and Barratt and they don't stock it now either.
I'm pretty sure I can get it online somewhere else but I'm also curious as to why it has mostly stopped being produced and wondered if anyone had heard anything, maybe side affects or something...

In stock on boots online so not likely to be a quality issue.

Giraffeski · 28/10/2014 07:45

In fact they sell two different versions both in stock online

hudyerwheesht · 28/10/2014 16:32

hmm, interesting. Wonder why it's disappeared from all the Boots I've been to.
Anyway, thanks for the links.

Well I took them for a couple of days and turned into Mrs-Very-Angry, so I think il leave them! Apparently they boost your progesterone levels and clearly I don't need boosting!
