3 Year Immunisations tomorrow - advice - feeling anxious

My Daughter is 3 years 8 months and has her immunisations tomorrow. I feel really anxious. Im not great with needles myself and I am so worried about her getting upset. I told her tomorrow Mummy and Daddy are taking you to the doctor so she can give your some special medicine in your arm to make sure you dont get poorly and afterwards we will go somewhere nice and get ice cream. She asked will it hurt? and i said it will just be a tine little prick really quick and you get a present after (pre brought a soft toy unicorn to wrap up)

I just get so deistressed to see her upset or in pain.

How has everyone found the jabs was it ok or a bit of a trauma?

My daughter had hers a few months ago. I prepared her by telling her that if she wanted to go to pre-school (which she was really looking forward to), then she had to have some medicine, and all the other children had already had it.

It was actually far less traumatic than I thought it was going to be. She briefly thought about crying but didn't, and the nurse printed a bravery certificate for her.

She does remember it and talks about it on occasions, but overall I think I was more worried about it than she was!

Oh don't be ridiculous! Seriously, you are making a much bigger deal of this than necessary. You will pass your fear onto her by being so anxious... Could your DP/ her GP take her?

Sorry, that sounded harsher than I meant it to, but as someone working in healthcare, I can tell you that the kids who make a big fuss are the ones with panicky parents.

My dd had hers on Monday I was expecting tears, but she looked on with mild interest, and then asked for the chocolate!

Try to keep calm as she will pick up on your anxiety.

I wasn't nervous about taking my DD and she knew what was coming and wasn't too scared beforehand. However, she is a bit of a wimp and can be a bit dramatic if she falls over or hurts herself so I knew she was going to cry when it had gone in. It was worse than I anticipated though...She cried for 4/5 hours afterwards...No exaggeration! She was even upset again the next morning when she woke up and moved her arm and realised it still hurt. It was a nightmare in all honesty. But she is small and dainty so I think it hurt more than most. All of her friends were fine though and they didn't even cry when it was done. I'm sure you DD will be fine. The nurse at the surgery said most children that age are fine with it. I'm glad it's the last one for a while!!

The immunization process wasn't a trauma (DD very calmly told the doctor that 'that hut and it's not nice to hurt people'), what came after was the most terrifying few days of my life - she had a very bad reaction.

Thanks everyone. All done and it went really well. She cried ford less than a minute and the spotted the unicorn toy and told the nurse now were going to the garden centre for my lunch! She has been fine last few hours cuddled up on the sofa watching up! Phew glad that's over for another 11 years!!!
