Treatment for sore throat

I've got a horrid throat at the moment - swollen tonsils, difficulty swallowing, tongue ulcers - and it seems to be migrating into a cold as well.

I'd been gargling with soluble aspirin every fours hours - my mum's patented treatment - but I just realised that that's probably not a good idea given that I'm still breastfeeding 16mo ds twice a day.

Anyone got suggestions for the best treatment? It's the really busy week at work, so I need to be on the ball...

Gargle with salt water.
Check for a bacterial infection (white spots on tonsils) and if that get some antibiotics from gp to help clear it up.

Garggle with soluble co-codamol. They can presecribe when you're pregnant so must be ok when you're breast feeding. Works a treat!

Not even heard of co-codamol! Thanks for the recommendation - will check it out
