my dd is 20, she started taking a new pill at the end of Aug called Zelleta. She stopped taking her old pill because it made her really hormonal and emotional, she hated the way it made her feel (and stopped that in July.) Over the past week she has had the feeling she might have a wee infection or thrush, but with no discharge and no pain on weeing, just a heavy feeling in her lower tummy and sore labial area. She's had thrush before so thought it might be the beginnings of that, so used a Canestan pessary. Her symptoms didn't resolve. She had sex 2 days ago and today noticed that she is bleeding, a very light period, when her period is not due. So she went to see a GP who thinks she has some intramenstrual bleeding and probably isnt suited to this pill either, so she has decided to come off it. She asked me tonight if she is still ok to stop taking the pill straight away after having sex 2 days ago. I said yes, but she obviously must use condoms from now on. She's got it into her head she needs to keep taking it for 5 days to cover her, is that right???

No, it's five days if you miss a pill, but as long as she took it right before she had set she'll be fine to stop.

Ok great, thank you for replying! I shall tell her. I've read a few convo's about Zelleta causing similar symptoms, so it probably is that.

I'm pretty sure she's right and you do need to keep taking the pill for 5 days after sex. Sperm can hang around for a few days so if she stops taking the pill and ovulates straight away there will still be sperm in there waiting for the egg.

the instructions in the box will give the answer - or they'll be online if she's lost them.
