I had my tonsils out a few years ago but still get tonsillitis now and again (apparently just in your throat?). Recently I've noticed these lumps from up behind my throat and have a very sore throat today. Does this look normal? (Please excuse the gross photo!!)

Thrush? Maybe. Maybe pop to pharmacist and get them to look. Push the fluids and try gargle.
Hope you feel better soon.

Yes, those lumps are your tonsils and you have tonsillitis.

Gettingthroughthis · 20/10/2014 23:04

Thank you. I can feel the lumps go right up behind there and assumed tonsils were lower (where I used to see them before they were removed). I'll go to doctors tomorrow if I can get am appointment

You can regrow tonsils (rare but it happens!) My Gran regrew just one of hers!

Looks nasty :(

They are not your tonsils. Tonsils are at the sides of your throat. It could be a throat infection or post nasal drip if you have had a cold, or just bad mucous. If you have tonsillitis you usually feel terrible with a high temp, aches and pains and maybe a headache too.

Been to the doctors and apparently I have tonsillitis on the posterior tonsils and post nasal drip and maybe polyps and I should get a referal for ent to review (I went to walk in doctors so need to get referred from normal doctor). Feel pretty rubbish today but hopefully antibiotics will work soon

I still get really massive tonsils and tonsilitis and I have mine out 44 years ago! I also have those weird lumps at the back of my throat that the GP said were polyps I think?
Tonsilitis sucks, hope you feel better soon. :(

Can someone grab you some of that throat numbing spray? The pharmacist in Ibiza gave me some really rank stuff but it worked, pity we only get weak stuff here from the pharmacist.

I've got some cocodamol that seems to be doing the trick thank you everyone. My 8 month old baby has it too poor thing

I had mine out because I had that white spot thing on my tonsils a lot (tonsil stones?)

Anyhoo, they were fine for years until I had Ds. Now when he is ill I get awful sore throats and sometimes the white spots where my tonsils used to be.

I wondered if it was somehow related to ds having it. Like he is always going to have tonsils like mine therefore it is easier to catch?! DH gets his cold but has never had problems with his tonsils.

Hmmmmm
