How long after having surgery and a general anaesthetic is it safe to drink alcohol?
I had a general wednesday morning would I be ok to drink Friday evening?

I would think it'd depend on the type of surgery and any medication you may be on. Eg I had an op a few months back and was on antibiotics for a week which made me feel completely dizzy and woozy so couldn't have faced anything to drink. The actual anaesthetic is out of your system within 24-48 hours I think.

I'm not on any medication at all. I was only in surgery for an hour at most. Do you think alcohol would have a stronger affect on me?

I would give it a week to make sure you're clear.

GA's knock you about.

SauvignonBlanche · 16/10/2014 16:29

I would.

I have a GA advice leaflet in front of me which says no driving, operating heavy machinery or drinking alcohol for 24hrs.

I had a GA on Monday (gall bladder) and I don't drink (no help to you Baby Wink ) but even now 36 hours later I still feel a bit 'floaty'.
If I had a drink (with my body's 0% tolerance level) I'd be sparked out

Thanks for your replies. It's my 30th birthday party tomorrow night ( all booked and paid for before I knew I would be having an operation!) so I really would like to have a couple of drinks!
I suppose I will just have to take it slow and see how I feel.

You still have a full 24 hours . Your body can recover alot in that time.
Happy 30th for tomorrow Smile
My DH spent his Birthday yesterday looking after me awwww

BabyBellasMumma · 16/10/2014 20:23

You'll be fine! I've had lots of operations. If they ever fell on a Thursday morning I had my usual wine on a Friday!

Have a good night!
