Pre-auricular pits - anyone know anything about them?

DD was born with one on her left ear. It's like a piercing mark but up the top.

She's nearly 13 now, and it hasn't caused too much bother. When she was a baby the dr mentioned she might need an op as she got older, but then they decided not to as it wasn't causing any bother.

This week it is infected and hot to the touch, and causing her a lot of pain. I've just taken her to the dr for antibiotics. This happened around a year ago too, and she needed three different types of antibiotics before it cleared up.

My question is - if she's going to get these infections every year and need antibiotics every time, would she be better getting it sorted with an operation?

No personal experience but I suppose the answer lies in how invasive the surgery is. If it is a straightforward procedure with low risk of complications it is probably worth doing.

My DS 2 is 9 weeks old and was born with these pits on both ears. My health visitor and GP didn't seem all that bothered at his various check ups... Hmm

Would be interested to hear how your daughter is now OP and what happened. Hope she's okay?
