Dental check ups and dentists

I've changed dentists recently- couple of years back- and am very pleased with them. I've had 2 annual check ups and go to the hygienist every 4 months. it's private so the cost is £40 for c scale and polish.
Today I received a letter saying it was time for my 6 monthly check up and they emphasised how they are ' preventative' dentists.

I really resent this as it is 'hard sell' imo.
I have read many times - might even have been the Dental Council or somewhere- that for adults with no problems, an annual check up is fine and every 6-months is really just to get you to spend money.

Does anyone else feel this way and are there any dentists around who can say quite honestly if someone with no problems, who has regular hygienist appts really needs to go every 6 months.

Each case is different. If you don't like their hard seek then just go somewhere else.

At a check up we assess for decay, gum disease and oral cancer.
NICE guidelines are 6-24 months but head and neck surgeons say this isn't frequent enough to spot cancer early enough to make a difference.

No one has the right answer, if you wanted to go every six months and the dentist said no, come once a year, you'd still be posting!!

Choose what you want and find a dentist who will support it, it's your mouth and your money!
