Trying to get a GP appointment but they are useless!

I haven't been able to open my bowels for 7 days now .
I've been taking fybogel and Lactolose and eating well but still nothing.

I think I have piles as well to add to this. It is extremely swollen and painful down there and I'm scared thats what is blocking the way!
Will this prevent me going?
What can I do?!

Poor you. Sore piles will make it painful to bear down but shouldn't actually block the way. After seven days you will be quite impacted. If you were to attend your Midwives Day Unit at the hospital they would probably recommend an enema.

If you want to try to stay home here's what I would recommend. ( I am a midwife though not practising right now). Go to pharmacy and buy glycerine suppositories, Vaseline/KY jelly and some latex gloves. Go home and lie down on the bed on your left side and gently but firmly insert two of the suppositories having smeared a bit of KY or Vaseline over the tip. Insert as far as you can, should be the full length of your index finger. Then lie still for as long as you can, at least 20 minutes but more if possible. The sups will gently dissolve and soften the hard stools in your rectum. You should then be able to pass some stools. You will still be constipated because seven days is a long time. You might need to repeat this again. If it's really sore to bear down use a wedge of toilet paper and support the are a little, this does help.

Keep drinking plenty of fluid and taking the lactulose. If still no joy do call the midwives they see this a lot and also get some treatment for your piles. You can get a steroid cream on prescription which works better than over the counter.

Hope that helps. Let us know how you get on.

Good luck.Smile
