ANy experience of a 'post viral rash'? (I thought ds had measles!!!)

Ds has been off colour for a few days and woke up this morning covered in lots of little pink spots that looked very much like the picture of measles in my book. (Felt very worried as MMR booked for Monday and I couldn't bear the thought that he'd caught the wild virus without any protection!). My GP said she didn't think it was measles, but a post viral rash (he's had a cold for about 10 days). Why would he get a rash from having a cold, when he never has done before? Is this what Drs say when they're not sure? Any explanation would be great

Dd had this when she was about 15 months. She'd been a bit off colour and had a high temperature. The next day she seemed fine and we went to the beach (we were on hols). That night when we put her in the bath she was covered in a rash. Her temperature then came back too, so NHS Direct arranged for us to be seen by the emergency GP at Newquay Hospital. She was a lovely, lovely lady who took one look and said "I can tell you now this isn't measles, I can tell from her eyes. It's a viral rash". She prescribed piriton and after a couple of doses of that and a quiet day at the hotel dd was right as rain again. She's only ever had it once.

My dd had this when about 18 months, exactly the same as your ds, off colour with a cold for a few days and then just when I thought she was better she woke up with a rash. My GP said exactly the same, post-viral rash. It's just one of those weird things that happens to kids but is guaranteed to scare the life out of you.

It's quite common. There was a thread on this recently.

both my dds have had these viral rashes several times, almost always at the same time as a cold, bit of a temperature etc, they are very common in littlies and I wouldn't worry unless the temp goes sky high.
