breakthrough bleeding worry

I went to the doctors yesterday because I have been having break through bleeding since my last period (apologies but this will be TMI). Pretty much every time I strain on the loo I bleed but not from my bum.

I have given myself the terrors thinking its cervical cancer but the doctor was wonderful yesterday, gave me a thorough check, smear and all. She said that there was evidence of bleeding from the neck of my womb but that my symptoms are not typical of the cause off this (not pregnant, not using the pill and no rough sex). Urine tests and blood tests where also done.
I am in my 40's so this could be hormone related and I am riciculously emotional, I feel like I have had PMS for a month. I cant have sex with DH because, well blood, yak. Feeling very sorry for myself and frankly I am still terrified its the big C or that I am going to be bleeding like this forever. I felt okay last night, right up until I went to the loo and it happened again, I just sat there in tears. Has anyone else experienced this? Is there something else I should be asking my doctor about?

This sounds like an erosion of some sort. Honestly, I know it's difficult but try hard not to imagine the worst! You really WILL have something entirely mundane and treatable. You're just panicking right now

the doctor mentioned it could be an etropic womb but was confused that I didnt have the symptoms
