Wtf is happening to me?

I'm feeling desperate and very frustrated.

About 8 weeks ago I had mild flu type symptoms. I also had a few 'heat lump' or insect bite type spots on my hip, chest and lower legs that were very itchy.

Then about two weeks after that had cleared up I started getting really achy wrists and ankles which spread to my whole hands and feet. Now it's every joint except my hips and shoulders, aches like toothache. I can hardly hold this phone up.

If I try to push through it and do something, even wipe around a sink, the pain gets much worse. I'm utterly exhausted after not doing much at all. A day shopping a few days who has wiped me out ever since. Ibuprofen doesn't touch it.

We're going on a Big Holiday in a couple of weeks so I'm really worried so won't be able to walk anywhere or do anything. So frustrated. Sad

Anyone have a clue what's going on?

Sorry that's so long.

Glandular fever??
Get to docs!

Roonerspism · 03/10/2014 22:56

I would make sure you are tested for Lyme. Have you has any tick bites?

Holdthepage · 03/10/2014 23:03

Get yourself to a Dr & get tested.

Achybones · 03/10/2014 23:06

What would they test for?

I'm phoning first thing Monday. Hate the docs, doesn't everyone, but this is ridiculous.

Don't think it's glandular fever, no sore throat.

What do tick bites look like? I don't have any lumps or bite type marks now.

Thank you for the replies. I know there's far far worse things but been upsetting myself think g this might be it for good. I'm only 30.

Achybones · 03/10/2014 23:08

Just looked at Lyme disease. I didn't have those kind of bite marks so don't think it's that.

I will go to DR. Driving myself up the wall trying to work it out.

Maybe something post viral? I had similar thing happen to me and thought it was rheumatoid arthritis but a blood test ruled it out. definitely go see your gp! get well soon.

BitchyTakesOnManagement · 03/10/2014 23:12

If it is lyme disease you might get a red ring around the bite mark and i have seen it present exactly as you are describing. Antibiotics is the cure.

FelixTitling · 03/10/2014 23:15

Could you have been bitten by the Blandford Fly?

Achybones · 03/10/2014 23:25

There wasn't a red ring. They looked just like mosquito bites or heat lumps.

It's feels like arthritis is described tbh. Like toothache in my joints. DH was very ill with a high fever just before I got poorly. He was fine after two days.

OP posts:
Achybones · 03/10/2014 23:26

They look nasty felix ! Suppose it's possible but I didn't notice the lumps until they came up so no painful bite.

OP posts:
Achybones · 03/10/2014 23:27

Thank you for the ideas. I hope the dr can solve it or at least give me something so I can enjoy the holiday. Poor DH, do t want to spoil it.

OP posts:
Nerris · 03/10/2014 23:31

Foot and mouth? It's uncommon in adults but my husband had it and was v ill.

Not sure you get itching though? He got very painful feet and hands and felt horrendous.

BitchyTakesOnManagement · 03/10/2014 23:48

You mean hand, foot and mouth Nerris? and not the foot and mouth that has been in the news?

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 03/10/2014 23:56

We've had hand, foot & mouth. Between us. None of us felt like that. Get thee self to the docs.

Achybones · 03/10/2014 23:58

Sorry your DH was so ill Nerris. I think I feel ok underneath the painful joints and tiredness iyswim?

That's what's so frustrating. I'm excited about the holiday prep but can't get started on it or any of my usual things like running, yoga etc. my brain is willing, my body isn't. Having a vent there. Blush

Could I copy out what I've said here in the OP and refer to it if I need to, do you think? At the GP I mean.

Onelittlepiglet · 04/10/2014 00:05

Long shot but you haven't been to the Caribbean recently have you? It's unlikely I know but the symptoms sounds similar to chikungunya which is a mosquito spread disease. (I live there so it's at the front of my mind because there is a problem with it here currently).

The rash, flu like symptoms and then the painful joints that have lasted sound very like it.... Probably unlikely but thought I'd suggest it.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 04/10/2014 00:07

Could it be slapped cheek? I caught that off ds2 who had the classic kid version of it but only put two and two together when I googled it for him and saw the adult symptoms - it affects adults in a slightly different way to kids. Google it. I had a rash and a runny nose and felt under the weather. Then when those symptoms went I had really sore ankle and wrist joints and was like a stiff old woman for a while.

Overly cautious GP sent me rheumatology consultant after blood test showed an increase in "inflammation markers" but by the time I saw him the joint problem had gone. He said it must have been slapped cheek.

Achybones · 04/10/2014 00:18

Onelittle it does sound similar but no I haven't been anywhere near there. No fever either except feeling hot when I was unwell.

Curly I've had a look and that does sound very like it. I have been around lots of children so it's possible one of them had it and passed it on. Apart from the odd lumps it sounds just like it. The time frame even fits.

Thanks again everyone,

Gp asap and I'll post bank if I find out what it is in case anyone else has similar in future searches.

itwillbebetter · 04/10/2014 00:21

Have just taken my DS to GP with exactly the same symptoms. He thinks its viral but has run blood tests today to check for inflammation etc. His symptoms have been identical but even his eyes and lips have swollen and he had night time fevers. Very strange.

Achybones · 04/10/2014 00:43

Oh no, poor mite Sad I hope he's feeling better very soon.

I haven't had any fevers though. I do suspect it's viral or some kind if inflammation left over from a virus. I guess they'll do the same tests when I go.

Fingers crossed he'll be right as rain soon Cake

Poor you OP. Look up post-viral arthritis - basically you can catch it.

GertrudeBell · 04/10/2014 00:52
