Chest infection after every cold.....

Six years ago a got a bout of pneumonia, came on very quickly starting with a deep cough but within 24 hours I became the most ill I've ever been I my life. Amoxicillin didn't touch it and it only got resolved after about 5 days when I was taken to hospital and given a different toe of antibiotic. It took a good 6 weeks to feel any better.

Every year after that I would get a bad cold, usually in the spring or autumn that would eventually go to my chest and require antibiotics to get rid of. Last year it didn't happen so I thought I'd finally broke the pattern but no, about 10 days ago I came down with a stinker of a cold, took 3 days off work then returned but only improved for a few days before I started feeling I'll again. Yesterday I went to the GP with the tell tale back pain and LO and behold I have a chest infection again and am on 500mg amoxicillin to clear it up

I am a non smoker, take good care of myself, eat well and get plenty of sleep. I don't exercise much but consider myself to be reasonably healthy and happy.

I'm fed up as I don't seem to be able to cope with a heavy cold at all and they always knock me for six. I've missed 3 days of work last week, went back for a week and am now off again. I'm sure they are going to think I do it deliberately as it's become a pattern where I get a cold, go back then bang am down again a week later.

Anything I can do or take to stop this happening?
