Breast lump biopsy

BabyBellasMumma · 02/10/2014 11:04

I found a lump in my breast about 9 weeks ago. I went for an ultrasound scan on Tuesday which showed a lump 11m in size, was told it is a tumour of some kind. I had a core needle biopsy there and then that i wasn't expecting. Now just got to wait for the results.

I have been trying not to worry about it and thought I was ok until last night when I went to check on DC before I went to bed and I burst into tears. I am 30 in a couple of weeks (got a party booked which I now can't even think about planning let alone attending) and have 2 young DC.

I had the same procedure and had to wait 3 weeks for the results. I spring cleaned the house from top to toe thinking I need to make sure it's manageable for dh & ds after my demise - of course the biopsy came back clear like the majority of lumps and bumps but for some reason rationality jumps out the window when waiting for results.
As far as I'm aware breast cancer treatment is very advance these days - I know of two colleagues who had breast cancer and are back to work full time doing great. Try not to worry.

Hi Baby Bella, I'm sorry you're feeling so worried. Have they said how long your biopsy results will take?

There is a tread on here in general health called the Tamoxigang...it is full of support and advice for anyone awaiting results.
They were really helpful when I had a lump 3 years ago....mine turned out to be an infection.
Please pop over to the thread it really helped me get through the 1 week wait I had until I got my results back.

My friend has breast cancer (or should i say had it as she had it as she is post mastectomy and mid chemo). When her lump was examined the doctors were pretty sure it was nasty, even before the biopsy. So she came away knowing she had cancer and would need treatment.

I don't know if that reassures you at all? Her tumour was 5cm (50mm).

Thank you all for your replies. They said I will know before my birthday which is 21st oct, so 3 weeks away! I'm hoping I don't have to wait the full 3 weeks. Trying not to worry but it's constantly on my mind. I'm avoiding talking about it in RL as I don't want to get upset or make other people feel uncomfortable so I'm trying my hardest to act like my normal self.

babybellasmummy so sorry to hear that you are going through this.

I also had a breast biopsy last week and am waiting for results, it was unexpected after a work health screen showed abnormalities in a mammogram. I have my follow up appointment next Thursday so will hand hold and join you in the waiting and worrying.

BabyBellasMumma · 02/10/2014 21:50

Sorry to hear that you are also going through it charming Thanks
At least you don't have to wait too much longer. Please do let me know how you get on and I'm here to hold your hand too.

How are you feeling BabyBellasMumma? Have you got your appointment through yet? I hope so.

I had been managing to keep myself busy and put this to the back of my mind until I got a copy of the letter sent to my GP this morning.

Hope that you have a nice weekend planned and that you get good news soon Thanks

BabyBellasMumma · 05/10/2014 19:53

I'm doing ok thank you charming. Ive had a busy weekend to keep me occupied so no time to sit and think about things.
No appointment yet though, I should hear something in the next couple of days.
How are you feeling? I hope the next few days pass quickly for you and you get some good news on Thursday.

Thankyou BabyBellasMumma I have managed to keep this at the back of my mind but am starting to feel nervous again tonight.

Has your appointment arrived? It must be difficult for you not knowing when you will get answers. I was given my appointment before I left the hospital after the biopsy.

How are you feeling?

I will update again tomorrow Thanks

BabyBellasMumma · 09/10/2014 21:31

I hope all went well today charming? I had a voicemail message while I was at work today informing me that I have an appointment to discuss the results of my biopsy tomorrow morning! Glad the waiting is almost over but they haven't given much notice to prepare for it!

My appointment went well thankyou, the lump is benign and I just have to monitor it. Very relieved as you would expect. Thank you for the hand holding and support whilst we have been waiting and worrying. I am exhausted tonight.

BabyBellasMumma · 09/10/2014 21:56

Thinking good thoughts for you Babybellasmummy xx

BabyBellasMumma · 10/10/2014 19:23

My appointment went fairly well today. They don't think the lump is cancerous but as it has grown quite a bit in the last few weeks they want to remove it. I go in for surgery on Wednesday next week.

I will be glad when it's gone.

OP posts:
charmingtime · 10/10/2014 21:00

Goodnews that they think its benign BabyBellasMumma but sorry to read that you need surgery at such short notice.

hope that you are feeling okay with all of this Thanks

BabyBellasMumma · 10/10/2014 21:43

Thanks charming. I'm feeling quite nervous about the procedure and having a general anaesthetic as never had anything like this before. But I'm glad that at least something is being done.
I have my 30th birthday party next Friday so I'm hoping that I will be feeling ok for that. I suppose it's been a blessing having the party to look forward to as it has helped take my mind off what else is going on at the moment.
