Mini-pill causing migrines?

I've had migraine with aura since I was 15. I normal only get 1-2 a year on average. I started the mini-pill in May this year (unable to take the combined pill due to having migraine in the first place) and since then I've had three migraines, which is unusual for me. Wondered if anyone else had noticed a connection?

I would definitely speak to the doctor about this. It sounds like there is some sort if connection.
I was advised that I could not take any contraceptive pills due to an increase in migraines. Certainly headaches are connected and if headaches increase you should stop taking the pill, think its something to do with blood pressure?
I assume the mini pill is the same sort of thing?

That is very odd. I am on Cerazette because of migraines on the combined pill.

IF anything, the Cerazette helps to control my migraines. I've been on it 10 years and only had 6, as opposed to the 10 per year I was having beforehand.

If you get migraine with aura I know you can't take the combined pill due to the oestrogen as there's an increased stroke risk. The mini pill only has progesterone in it which is what made me unsure as to if there's a link. I've googled but not found much.

That's what I've heard pillforgetting, not really seen anything to suggest it could cause an actual increase. I can't pinpoint any other reason for my increased migraines, I haven't changed anything else about my lifestyle or diet.

I don't suffer migraines but the mini pill definitely gave me really bad headaches. Shooting pains behind my eyes around toy ears with a dull ache in the background. They stopped as soon as I came off it.

Oddly enough give started suffering from them again, although not as much, now I'm pregnant so I reckon it must be a hormone thing.

PillForgettingIdiot · 01/10/2014 19:58

Come off it then OP. Life is too short for migraines. An IUD has been recommended for me? A hormone free one. How would you feel about that?

Familyguyfan · 01/10/2014 20:00

I can't take the mini pill and have had to have my mirena coil removed as they both increase the frequency of my migranes. For me, anything which messes with my hormones is a no-no.

pillforgetting I would be happy about trying an IUD, not keen on the idea of going back to condoms!
