Cause I am on a diet and have made them a big part of it (cause they are veggie = healthy...right??)

Ive been having avacardo for breakfast and sweet potatoes instead of normal ones.

I have actually put 2lbs on!!!

Tell me its not cause of them!!!

avacado defo high in calories

sandyballs · 27/09/2006 14:11

Apparently it is "good" fat, so don't worry too much.

Just out of interest, could they be the cause of your huge libido

TambaTheDragonSlayer · 27/09/2006 14:12

Do avacardos make you horny then?

They are nice with grapefruit and black pepper yum

Of course they are, that's why they taste nice. well sweet potatoes don't have fat but lots of sugars.

Elibean · 27/09/2006 14:13

Aah, Tamba, so sorry...avocadoes are massively calorific. I was horrified when I found that out too - love the things. Bananas, avocadoes, cheese, and smoked mackered - the worst offenders.

But sweet potatoes I don't know about....ordinary potatoes are not bad at all (unless you lump tons of butter on). Hope someone can say the right thing on that one!

TambaTheDragonSlayer · 27/09/2006 14:14

Bananas too?

Oh I am dumb!!!

I have been practically living off them. Gah. Thought I was being so well behaved.

sweet potatos are okay!
They are low GI - which means they exude their suagrs slowly, giving you more energy and needing to find food agin more quickly
Avocadoes are a superfood
In moderation
Look I've just eaten two mashed into guacamole
But then I am eating for two

edam · 27/09/2006 14:19

Avocado is really fatty, but it is 'good' fat (omega 6 essential fatty acids). Best avoided or limited if you are trying to lose weight though. Fruit is really sugary so again, limit it when on a diet. Eat plenty of veg to make up for less fruit (you should be having five portions of fruit/veg a day).

Pinkchampagne · 27/09/2006 14:26

Avocado is full of calories, but they are very good for you!

Bozza · 27/09/2006 14:30

Don't worry Tamba I am in a similar position. CAn't believe you have to limit fruit when you are on a diet.

Elibean · 27/09/2006 15:15

Sorry Tamba, feel like a big spoil-banana.

When I was losing weight, I snacked endlessly on raw carrots - no limit on raw veggies - and actually they taste quite sweet, if they're good ones. Apples aren't too bad, either, as fruit go - watch out for grapes and the sweeter ones though.

Glad to hear sweet potatoes are ok
