stretch marks on DS' back

DS, 18, has a recurrence of what appear to be stretch marks on his lower back. Several reddish and some far paler - the latter may be old marks that have faded.

Last time he got these marks, probably about 2 - 3 years ago, we got bio oil. Is this still the best thing to get? No sudden weight gain or loss this time. Last time (and this was confirmed by GP), we were probably looking at a growth spurt. Not this time. Any thoughts as to why a very probably fully grown, slim 18 year old could be getting these marks which, he says, feel a little sore at times. Thanks for any ideas and suggestions.

No ideas but my DS1 who is 15 has similar. He has grown about 5 inches in the last 12 months so I am putting it down to that!

Any ideas of how to reduce the appearance of them would be welcome as he is a bit self conscious.

Bio oil was quite effective last time (DS was about the same age as your DS) - but I've heard about coconut oil and cocoa nut butter - a mix of the two.
I think DS would feel odd putting the coconut oil from the fridge (therefore used in a lot of our cooking) on his back, so I may get him this specially formulated cream.
