Well obviously I'll wait a good few weeks for everything to return to normal, but I'm aware my smear is overdue...

I think I had one at my 6 week check after dd2.

LaylaandSethsmum · 26/09/2006 13:03

current guidelines say that ideally not until 12 weeks post natally.

After DS1 I had a smear test at my 6 week check. Personally I would not recommend it, it hurt like hell, I nearly hit the ceiling! It made me really nervous about having a smear again (and I am not normally nervous about that sort of thing)
After DD2 I was once again due a smear at my 6 week check, but I asked if I could leave it for a while. I went back at about 5 months and everything was fine, just a bit uncomfortable as you wouls expect.
I guess a lot depends on whether you had a vaginal birth or a c-section.

Gobbledigook · 26/09/2006 13:28

I had one at 6 week check too

2plus2plus1 · 26/09/2006 13:43

3 months recommended I think.

The MW that spent over an hour stitching me up said I'd be better waiting 6months instead of 3. Dr at 6wks got quite irrate when I said I was waitimg til 6months so I booked one as soon as DC went back to school at 4months (convenience). Wish I had waited another couple of months cos it was very uncomfortable.

post natal check both times.

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 26/09/2006 13:46

I had one at a 6 week check once - it was vile, the worst one I've ever had. Leave it a bit lobger than that but don't forget about it otherwise we will track you down and nag at you

I had a reminder through the other day and asked my midwife whilst i was having my check, she said minimum of 6 weeks.

bundle · 26/09/2006 14:49

I think mine was when dd2 was 9 weeks old

IdrisTheDragon · 26/09/2006 14:51

My GP said to not have one until 20 weeks after birth.

paws4thought · 26/09/2006 17:08

my gp wouldn't do it until 6 months after birth of dd

Lucybug · 26/09/2006 17:19

3 months as far as I know....

ja9 · 26/09/2006 17:58

i had my last one at my post natal check...

Twohoots · 26/09/2006 18:06

I had one at 6 wk check (as it was slightly overdue with being pregnant) however GP was concerned about doing it as she said sometimes they cannot get 'enough' cells to get a proper reading at this time. Lo and behold I had to go back for a retest a bit later on as that had been the problem so I'd wait a while if you can to save yourself any retest etc.

Joolstoo · 26/09/2006 18:18

I think I had my very first one at the 6 week check after having dd - and that was way back then
